Slate is a fine-grained, foliate metamorphic rock - the finest grained of all foliated metamorphic rock, to be exact. Slate is most commonly grey, but also is seen in purple, green and cyan depending upon the geographical location where it was formed. We're pleased to tell you that all of our slate projects here at Lavender Way use reclaimed roofing tiles from older homes. They're sanded, sealed and reinforced to provide durability. Our Painted Slate art is two-dimensional sceneries. A variety of paint colors create the background for each piece. Objects of different materials, such as driftwood, metal, shells, rocks are added to create a sort of living photograph...a window into another world, if you will. All of our Driftwood has been cleaned, dried, stabilized and sealed for long lasting durability and a variety have been used, sanded, pieced together, some whitewashed and some clear coated or stained highlighting the natural grain of the wood.
