Memory Bears Beginnings

 Athena was two and a half years old when we were introduced.  She was K-9 trained, smart, willful and very high energy. We agreed to let her visit with us for one week which ultimately turned into 8 years of unconditional and boundless love.  One might wonder what this has to do with Memory Bears.  A friend of a friend was having an increasingly difficult time managing certain aspects of her life after her mother’s passing.  She found that three children, two dogs, work and home was a little more than she was able to manage at the time.  She knew Athena needed much more than she and her family could give.  She knew Athena had to find a new home where this GSD was number 1 in all aspects of her life.  Athena needed to be the only one in a family with no competition for affection or attention.  The friend was also having a very difficult time giving up her mother’s clothing.  It was suggested that in exchange for a loving home for Athena, I would make some "Memory Bears" out of her mother’s clothes.  So I turned some favorite clothing into unforgettable, huggable bears.  That is how these cherished memory bears were born.  Athena came for a visit and stayed a lifetime, giving us boundless and indescribable joy.
